Thank you to all who participated, volunteered, and attended the “13th Annual Powder Puff School Sponsored Charity Event” last night at Datka Stadium. In semi-final action, the Juniors defeated the Sophomores, 14-6, and the Seniors defeated the Freshmen, 12-6.
The championship game was a defensive battle, leading to a score of 0-0 at the end of regulation. Neither team scored in the first overtime, where each team then received the ball at the 10-yard line and had four downs to score. The Seniors stopped the Juniors short of scoring on their first possession of double overtime. On the first play for the Seniors in that second overtime, Amber Cefalu scored on a 10-yard run for the walk-off victory!
Congratulations to all teams, and thank you to the many staff members who donated their time as volunteers to help make this event such a success. We also want to thank the Wall of Sound for the National Anthem and the Class of 2024 for running the concession stand. An additional thank you to all players, coaches, and students for good sportsmanship and appropriate behavior during the event! It was a beautiful night, continuing our fortune of having great weather for 12 of the 13 years of this event. We even survived the fire alarm system going off, which caused an evacuation of the building and paused the volleyball matches, topped off by a visit from the Germantown Fire Department!
This year’s event was well-attended, with several hundred in attendance and $1,220 raised in gate donations. 80% of proceeds will go to the St. Boniface Food Pantry and the other 20% to the Senior class fundraising account. Team pictures will be posted on the GHS website and our social media accounts later today.
