backpacking trip

Students currently in grades 11–12 can apply to go on this summer's annual Porcupine Mountain Wilderness Area backpacking trip. Students along with several science teachers will spend four nights in the wilderness of Upper Michigan and learn first-hand about science (biology, geology, and astronomy) as well as backpacking and camping skills.

Applications Due: 3/1–4/22
Classroom Learning: 6/9–6/10, 3–6 pm
Backpacking & Camping: 6/11–6/15

There are no requirements for prior camping experience or equipment, just a sense of adventure and the willingness to learn. This free course starts with two days of classroom learning about the state park and getting familiar with the gear. The next five days are spent backpacking and seeing some incredible scenery, each campsite different from the next.
