The girls cross country team finished out the season with back to back meets; the Meet of Future Champions on Thursday, October 21, and the WIAA Sectional on Friday, October 22. No scores were kept in the first meet, but Germantown runners had much to be happy about. In the first race of the night, freshmen Ella Armstrong and Lizzie Gscheidmeier both ran personal best times, while much improved sophomore Angela Zheng followed her teammates to the finish line, just seconds off of her personal best. In the second race, Alissa Lorbecki and Mina Ryan paced team mate Elise Dahlby to her personal best time, Ryan also ran a season best. Joy Shill and Kayla Uebele pushed each other through a strong race, while Kayleigh Paradise had a strong season best performance and ran great splits.
On Friday, the 7 varsity runners took on the strong competition at the WIAA Sectional at Lincoln Park. Senior Lauren Jex tied her personal best and placed 10th, just 7 seconds short of qualifying for the state meet. Lizzie Liker, Claire Reedy, and Keira Lorbecki had strong performances just seconds off of personal best times. Juniors Izzy Mrzyglod and Erin Fredrickson ran impressive races; Mrzyglod ran under 22:00 for the second time, and Fredrickson ran a season best at the meet. As a team, the Warhawks placed 8th of 12, Whitefish Bay and Arrowhead took the two team berths for the state meet, while Milwaukee King, DSHA, and Sussex Hamilton each had one individual qualifier and Homestead had two.
The Germantown Girls' Cross Country Team ended their regular season on a positive note with 8 of 13 athletes running season best or personal best times. The Greater Metro Conference is one of a number of incredibly competitive venues, and this year proved to be no exception. Last year's champion Brookfield Central repeated their winning finish with a strong and tightly packed group of 5 individuals (time difference only 39 seconds). The team's 8th place finish didn't reflect their dedication and effort this season. Germantown's Lauren Jex ran a strategic and well planned race; she finished 6th with a time of 19:55 and earned First Team All-Conference honors. Sophomore Lizzy Liker cut almost one minute off of her personal best (20:35) with a 22nd place finish and while earning Third Team All-Conference honors. Freshman Claire Reedy was 41st (21:19), junior Izzy Mryzglod (21:58 personal best for 53rd), and frosh Grace Pedersen (22:39- finished 59th) to round out the 5 members of the varsity group.
The JV fared a little better as a team placing 6th. Leading the way for the Warhawks was junior Erin Fredrickson. Her 22:30 was 1:44 seconds better than her season best; she placed 18th. Freshmen Ella Armstrong and Lizzie Gscheidmeier finished 33rd and 36th respectively, with 45 and 50 second improvements to their personal best times as well. Alissa Lorbecki took 1:10 off of her season best, and Joy Shill knocked 2:01 off her personal best time as well. Elise Dahlby, Kayleigh Paradise and Mina Ryan rounded out the team members in the JV race. Well done to all!
Good luck tonight in the level two football playoff game at home against Wauwatosa West at 7pm! GO WARHAWKS!
The Germantown Boys' Soccer Team's season came to an end last Tuesday with a 3-2 hard fought loss against Sheboygan North. North started off the scoring with a deflected goal from a long range shot that sent the ball just past Conference Honorable Mention Seth Timple. The score was 1-0 at the end of the first half but was tied shortly after the start of the second half by another Honorable Mention Joe Bruss. Later in the second half, North went up 2-1. Gtown once again equalized with a PK by Max Lamb, another all-conference Honorable Mention. With 15 minutes to go, North scored on a questionable No-Call offside breakaway. The boys were not able to overcome the last goal, even after several promising attempts. A good season came to an end earlier than they thought, but it was a good season nonetheless. Thank you to all the supporters out there. Please keep cheering on the boys' soccer team!
The Germantown Girls' Swim and Dive Team finished their regular season undefeated with a 6-0 record in conference duals for both JV and Varsity by beating DSHA on senior night on Thursday, October 14th. The Varsity Girls' Volleyball Team finished their season last night losing in a four game battle against Brookfield Central in the WIAA Sectional Semis. It was a tough loss but it was a great season overall. The Lady Warhawks won the Greater Metro Conference finishing 8-0 for the first time ever and won the WIAA Regional championship which hasn't been done in at least 5 years.
Thank you to all those who came to a match this year. You made it an awesome environment to compete in and also made the season that more special! You are appreciated!
Good luck to boys' volleyball as they compete on Saturday at 3:30 at Slinger in a Sectional-Final game. GO WARHAWKS!
