Dramatic Impact presents its fall play: Radium Girls By D.W. Gregory

In 1926, radium was a miracle cure, Madame Curie an international celebrity, and luminous watches the latest rage—until the girls who painted them began to fall ill with a mysterious disease. Inspired by a true story, Radium Girls traces the efforts of Grace Fryer, a dial painter, as she fights for her day in court. Called a "powerful" and "engrossing" drama by critics, Radium Girls offers a wry, unflinching look at the peculiarly American obsessions with health, wealth, and the commercialization of science.

Radium Girls is recommended for high school age and older.

BCCThe Germantown Boys' Cross Country season came to an end last week.  The JV Athletes competed on Thursday, October 24th at the JV State “Future Meet of Champions” at Rotary Park in Menomonee Falls.  The runners capped off their season with 15 Personal Records (PRs) and a handful of Season Bests.

In the “Faster Boys Race” Monroe Gaskill lead the way with a 15th place finish and 35 second PR.  Brayden Ebli, Tyler Oertel, Andrew Reineck, and Ben Armstrong rounded out the scoring 5.  In the “Fast Boys Race” Jimmy Zheng was the team’s top finisher with a 29 second PR good for 26th place.  Justin Sossaman, Jack Kukowski, Bradley Hagemann, and John Goetter rounded out the scoring 5.  Congrats to the following athletes who had PRs:

Monroe Gaskill, Andrew Reineck, Ben Armstrong, Zach Prescott, Anthony Nuchikat, Tyler Kirsch, Blake Yegge, Chase Schellinger, Jimmy Zheng, Justin Sossaman, Jack Kukowski, Bradley Haggeman, Noah Rafn, Colin Hecker, and Logan Bengtson

On Saturday, October 26th the Varsity Boys were represented by Emerson Feltz, Jack Flynn, James Goetter, Vander Hausmann, Matthew Momper, Cooper Walsh, and Jack Wanezek at Sectionals at Heritage Parks Trails in Slinger.  The course is possibly the most difficult in Wisconsin with 285 feet of elevation gain mostly in the final 2 miles.  Hartford Union and Shorewood earned the top two team spots qualifying for State. The team finished in 9th place finish at the Sectional, but they were only 17 points out of 6th place.  Jack Wanezek was the team’s top finisher in 27th place and was followed closely by Matthew Momper in 33rd place.  Cooper Walsh, Emerson Feltz, and Jack Flynn rounded out the scoring 5.  The runners battled for each other and themselves at the race - leaving it all out on the course.  Congrats on a great season!  Coach Optekar says, "Thank-you to all of the parents, family members, friends, and teammates that came out to support the team at Sectionals".

GCCMeet of Future Champions – October 24th, 2024: For those not running Sectionals on Saturday, this meet held at Rotary Park in Menomonee Falls was their last chance to finish the season on a high note, and the girls’ cross-country team hit one out of the park!  The team had 29 girls run, with 22 of them setting new PRs, and 5 runners with season bests.

Katy Morin led the team with a time of 20:39, cracking the 21-minute barrier for the first time.  Also running new PRs were Keira Lorbecki, Ava Borchardt, Emily Laitinen, Anne Drinan, Madeline Quesenberry, Hailey Sadowski, Ella Pedersen, Madison Burns, Jordan Knudson, Elyse Steuerwald, Angela Bengtson, Sarah Plambeck, Natalie Menzl, Alana Olstad, Allison Theys, Brooklyn Chesir, Brooke Bengtson, Abby Schwedler, Kahlie Hollowway, Lizzie Blodgett, and Emmalyn Abraminko.  Ellie Ankerson, Clare Kanters, Booke Jakubowski, Ella Molnar, and Cassie Zarder ran season bests.

It has been an exceptional season, and the girls should be proud of the work they have put in, and the results they have achieved.  Well done to all!

GCCGCCCross-Country Sectionals – October 26th, 2024: The team's top 7 runners would face their toughest challenge of the season at sectionals: a difficult course and strong competition for spots in next week’s state meet.  Heritage Trails County Park is a beautiful venue for a cross-country meet, but the rolling terrain, steep hills, and rocks and roots in the woods are a staunch test for even seasoned runners.  With the support of their teammates, family, and friends, the varsity squad faced it head on.

Samyiah Fox led the team to a 4th place finish (out of 12 schools), with Kierta Siegert, Kate Ittner, Gracie Ballesteros, and Carley Lorbecki completing our team score.  Elise Olson and Adeline Timm also competed, running hard to the finish.  There is no doubt the girls gave everything they had, and left it all out on the course.  The coaching staff could not be prouder of this group!

FULL RESULTS

Samyiah’s 13th place finish qualified her for the state meet, 3 years in a row now!  After this week of preparation, she’ll face the next challenge: The Ridges course in Wisconsin Rapids with 189 other runners in the D1 Girls race.  Good luck, Samyiah!
