On Saturday, January 20 there was a dual meet match between the Germantown and Menomonee Falls High School bowling clubs at Sussex Lanes. It was a battle between the two top teams in the Wisconsin High School Bowling District 1, North Division. Germantown came into the match with a 11-1 dual meet record and Menomonee Falls had a 10-2 record. In a hotly contested match, Germantown prevailed, but Menomonee Falls proved to be a serious test.
It was a classic match-up of two Heavyweight fighters exchanging haymaker blows. Germantown started fast with games of 268 and 231, and parlayed that into a 4-2 game advantage. The Wisconsin High School bowling club format is best of 9 games, so Germantown needed just one more win at that point. Menomonee Falls proved to be a formidable opponent, however, landing a few serious punches of their own. With consecutive games of 266 and 233, Menomonee Falls got back into the match. Then, following a 167-167 tie game, the match was tied after 9 games at 4 ½-4 ½. This called for a tenth game to decide the match. In the deciding game, the Germantown squad was clutch and closed the deal 182-171.
This propels the Germantown High School Co-Ed varsity bowling club to the Wisconsin state competition this year! The competition will be held from March 1-3 at the Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley. This year has been a wonderful season for the squad consisting of Nolan Rabehl (captain), Leo Borrelli, Jacob Krutina, Aiden Saltarikos, Trent Quigley, Drew Kerr and Evan Schmitt. Good luck to the GHS boys' Varsity bowlers!
