Thank you to all who participated in, volunteered for or attended the “14th Annual Powder Puff School Sponsored Charity Event” last night at Datka Stadium. In semi-final action, the Sophomores defeated the Juniors 18-14, with a touchdown on the last play of the game and the Seniors narrowly held off the Freshmen 6-0.
The championship game was arguably one of the most competitive finals in the 14-year history of our events. The Seniors began the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run by Macie Daniel and then followed that up with a 2-yard touchdown run by Reece Berge, to go up 12-0. The Sophomores answered with a 31-yard touchdown pass from Addy Luedtke to Mary Leininger and were successful on a 2-point conversion to make the score 12-8 at the half.
In a very entertaining second half, the Sophomores began the scoring with a 2-yard touchdown pass from Addy Luedtke to Julia Skarda and once again were successful on a 2-point conversion to take the lead 14-12.
With a few minutes left, Senior Reece Berge ripped off a 55-yard touchdown run and with the successful 2-point conversion, the Seniors held a 20-14 lead. The Sophomores were driving, but with :30 seconds left in the game, Senior Rachel Murphy intercepted a pass to seal the 20-14 win for the Class of 2024!
Congratulations to all teams and thank you to the many staff members who donated their time as volunteers to help make this event such a success. Also, thank you to the Wall of Sound for the National Anthem and to DECA/FBLA for running the concession stand. Thanks to all players, coaches and students for good sportsmanship and appropriate behavior during the event! It was a beautiful night, continuing our fortune of having great weather for 13 of the 14 years of this event!
This was a well-attended event with several hundred in attendance and $1,306 was raised in gate donations with 80% of the proceeds going to the St. Boniface Food Pantry and the other 20% going to the Senior class fundraising account.
